Naval Air Station Air Force Base Museum of Art Convention Center Zoological Park

Oceana Naval Air Station - 12 miles. Last year alone, there were a quarter of a million takeoffs and landings at the Oceana Naval Air Station, just 12 miles from Wingate by Wyndham Norfolk. Over the years, Oceana has grown to more than 16 times its original size and, today, it covers 6,000 acres and employs more than 11,000 Navy personnel. For an insider’s view of the Naval Air Station, tours of the Base are offered daily (except holidays and weekends) where you will see over 200 aircraft including the FA-18 Hornet.

Norfolk Amphibious Base Little Creek - 3 miles. The Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek is the largest base of its kind in the world and serves as the major operating base for Amphibious Forces in the United States Atlantic Fleet. The Base's combination of operational, support, and training facilities for amphibious operations, makes it unique among bases of the United States and Allied Navies. The Base sits on nearly 2,500 acres of land, including four miles of beautiful beachfront property with a portion of the acreage designated as wildlife preserves and wilderness trails.  [Top]

Langley Air Force Base - 12 miles. As the host unit at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, the 1st Fighter Wing operates and maintains one of the largest fighter bases in Air Combat Command. For its Air Force personnel and their families, Langley AFB offers a variety of services including a thrift store, child development center, family child care, fitness center, golf course, thrift shop, and vet clinic. Langley recreation programs include hang gliding, paintball, white-water rafting, rock climbing, canoeing, hiking, scuba diving, snow-skiing trips, and biking.

Norfolk Botanical Garden - 4 miles. Just minutes from downtown Norfolk and Virginia Beach, the beautiful Norfolk Botanical Garden comprises more than 20 gardens featuring a huge variety of plants - from the cultivated to the wild - within its 155-acre site. View these lovingly created gardens via a tram tour, a walking tour, or a tour by boat. Chrysler Museum of Art - 7 miles. The Chrysler Museum of Art in Virginia Beach, VA, combines one of America's great fine arts museums and two significant historic houses. Founded in 1939, the Museum experienced explosive growth in 1971 when automobile heir and art collector Walter P. Chrysler, Jr. presented the City of Norfolk with his collection of fine art. Through the years, the Museum has continued to build on Mr. Chrysler’s legacy with regular additions to its holdings. The Chrysler Museum also offers a comprehensive program of changing exhibitions and educational activities for visitors of all ages.

Chrysler Hall - 7 miles. Home to the Virginia Symphony and the Norfolk Forum, Chrysler Hall also hosts the popular Broadway at Chrysler Hall series of the most popular Broadway shows. Chrysler Hall, with seating for 2,500, is also beautifully appointed and well suited to a multitude of special occasions including weddings, receptions, and other formal affairs. Virginia Zoological Park - 10 miles. As part of its mission to educate people about wildlife, the Virginia Zoological Park provides many opportunities for its guests to learn about the world’s flora and fauna. Animals are displayed in a natural way that encourages their natural behavior, helps conserve animals and their habitats, and offers maximum enjoyment to the public. Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center. Take an adventurous dolphin watching cruise in late spring, summer or early fall, or go whale watching in the winter from the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center. As the state’s largest aquarium, the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center comprises two buildings holding 700,000 gallons of aquariums and live animal habitats, an outdoor aviary, 10 acres of marsh habitat, and a three-mile nature trail.
